Beren and Luthien flee Angband: a scene from Tolkien's The Silmarillion

Personal piece. I'm a huge Tolkien fan. I could probably quote The Lord of the Rings, in the original Sindarin backwards. Big, big influence on my work, and the way I view the wider world. Professor Tolkien was really onto something, when he wrote The Silmarillion, which, despite the presence of men and dwarves, is essentially a history of the elves, and their struggles with Melkor, the original Dark Lord. Here is one of my favourite scenes from the book. The elven princess Luthien, rescuing her human lover Beren, from the dungeons of Melkor.
